There are times when an institution may have a need for users to log in through more than one system or identity provider (IdP).
The only challenge is that when users get logged out, they need to be redirected to the correct login page. EdReady can only redirect users to one URL to log back in.
The EdReady SSO workflow includes a page for this single redirect. This is where users are routed if they get logged out of EdReady and need to log back in through the IdP (identity provider = your system).
Here is an example of that page:
Setting up the redirect with a single IdP:
In the EdReady SSO setup instructions, two of the steps are to provide that URL and a name for the link in the configuration settings on the EdReady side :
- External Name - Name your system (something your students would understand).
- External URL - Input the login URL for your system (i.e.,the location you would send students to log in). If students get timed out of their EdReady session and need to log back in, they will need to get back to the login page for your system. By providing that information here, EdReady will direct them to the appropriate place.
This information is used to populate the default EdReady page which directs students where to log back in.
Setting up the redirect with more than one IdP:
There is only one link to configure in EdReady, so when using SSO with two different identity providers (such as two different LMSes), you will need to create a separate landing page to which you will direct users who have been logged out. This page will provide more information on where the user should log back in, depending on their own situation.
This page can be as simple as a public Google Doc or it can be an HTML page within your website.
An basic example would be:
You have been logged out of EdReady.
To log back in, you will need to return to the location from which you originally logged in:
Our School's Website <<linked to that IdP>>
Our School's Other Website <<linked to the other IdP>>
To configure this into EdReady, simply add the URL and the Name of this page to your EdReady SSO configuration, using a name that is meaningful for students and will make sense in the context of the EdReady page that they will encounter after being logged out:
External URL: https://our.login.instructions.html
External Name: Our School's EdReady Login Instructions
