Since we track the time that students spend in EdReady, we must also capture situations where the student is no longer actively using the site. For this purpose, we have a timeout feature. This feature has been carefully considered to get the most accurate results possible across a wide range of use cases. It is universal and cannot be altered.
How Timeouts Work
When a student is using EdReady but has not interacted with the site for some time (i.e., clicked anything in the study path or a testing activity), the system assumes the student is no longer using EdReady or has closed their browser without logging off.
When this happens, students will see a pop-up prompt. If the student is actually using the site, they will be able to dismiss this window and continue their work. When the student does not respond to the warning message, their session times out due to inactivity. You can find more details in the Student help center: Logging out of EdReady and Session Timeout.
How Time Logs Are Affected
The factors that determine when students will see that prompt and the resulting impact on time logs are as follows:
Everywhere except the study resources: Students will see a prompt after 29 minutes of inactivity
- If the student does not respond within 60 seconds of being notified, they are timed out and EdReady adds 5 minutes to the student's "time using EdReady" log.
- If the student responds within 60 seconds, the session continues and all of the student's "time using EdReady" for this session is counted (including the 29 minutes of apparent inactivity).
In the study resources: Students will see a prompt after 25 minutes of inactivity
- If the student does not respond within 300 seconds (5 min) of being notified, they are timed out and EdReady adds 5 minutes to the student's "time using EdReady" log as well as the "time studying" for that specific resource/assessment.
- If the student responds within 300 seconds (5 min) of being notified, the session continues and all of the student's time for this session is added to the "time using EdReady" log as well as the "time studying".
