Will students work with rhetoric in the course?

We have infused rhetoric throughout NROC’s Developmental English curriculum, but we have not specifically labeled it as "rhetoric".

We have chosen to focus on the mode of writing in each unit and how that particular mode is employed to address typical college-level reading and writing assignments.

While we do not specifically identify a “rhetoric assignment,” most of the writing assignments have students writing persuasively.

Students will write a comparison essay, a critical analysis, a definitional argument, a cause and effect analysis, and an argument essay. During this process, they will be introduced to the basic principles of argumentation, including the concept of having and supporting a position with valid research, and the relationship between reader, writer, and text, otherwise known as the rhetorical triangle.
